INFRARED NERVE STIMULATION

Infrared Nerve Stimulation

Infrared Nerve Stimulation (INS) is a novel nerve stimulation method that has several advantages over traditional electrical stimulation. INS allows for non-contact, high selectivity, and artifact free nerve stimulation. The inherent nature of light allows for non-contact stimulation avoiding contact related nerve damage. INS also can selectively stimulate nerve fascicles within nerve trunks to provide high resolution nerve mapping capabilities. Since INS is not an electrical stimulation modality, there are no electrical artifacts allowing for reading compound nerve action potentials (CNAPs) at the same stimulation activation sight.
